What Does the Care Cap Delay Mean?

21st November 2022

The situation:

By now, you will have heard that the care cap, which many local authorities have been planning for, has been delayed by another two years. The decision was announced by chancellor, Jeremy Hunt during his Autumn Statement on 17 November and means that adult social care charging reforms will now come into force in October 2025.

Hunt also revealed that additional funding of £1bn next year and £1.7bn in 2024 will be allocated to adult social care and will increase the NHS budget by £3.3bn each year for the next two years. You can read his full speech here.

The funding boost will no doubt be welcome news to many local authorities, but it does still leave a significant gap that will need to be filled through efficiencies and smarter interoperability between services. We know that many local authorities will be looking for ways to improve in those areas, despite the care cap now being a little further away than first anticipated.

No delay for Liquidlogic product improvements:

While the care cap itself has been delayed, we certainly do not see that as any reason to halt our own progress and development. In fact, a large proportion of the recent development work at Liquidlogic will still be very useful and pertinent to helping our customers manage demand. Several of our most exciting and innovative product improvements and additional functionality were already on our roadmap. They were simply expediated by the care cap.
