The London Borough of Islington is one of a number of Local Authorities piloting an intervention scheme known as Pause, which is funded through the Department for Education’s social care innovation programme. The project works with women who have experienced, or are at risk of, repeat removals of children from their care and provides intensive and holistic support.
One of 7 pilot sites, Islington has made use of the configuration tools within their Liquidlogic Children’s Social Care System (LCS) to create a workflow process and forms to support the initiative. This was all done in house using the flexible capabilities of the product and did not require technical input either from Liquidlogic or the Council’s IT department.
Speaking about this project, Ben Pope, Early Help and Social Care ICT Programme Manager at the London Borough of Islington says: “The demographic information about the mothers was already available in Islington’s LCS, as was the history relating to the children who had been removed before. Therefore it made sense for Islington to use LCS to create the workflow for this programme as it could draw on existing data and build on from there.
We needed a way of recording details of the women within the Pause programme which was both familiar to social workers and allowed them to follow a clear process. We recognised early on that with the flexibility which the Liquidlogic system offers, we were able to make the changes without recourse to the supplier. The ability to design bespoke forms and workflow meant that we could control content, ensure confidentiality of the project’s service users and deliver to timescale for the project.”
