Liquidlogic Supporting Refuge Campaign
Liquidlogic is supporting Refuge’s campaign to increase domestic violence services available in England.
Research carried out by Liquidlogic in 2009 highlighted significant inconsistencies in police procedures and the specialist domestic violence training received across a number of police forces. It found that just 25% of England’s police forces are providing specialist domestic abuse training for their officers.
78% of police forces were unable to specify a budget dedicated to their domestic abuse teams. For those that did, budgets ranged from just 0.005% to 2.8% of their overall Public Protection Unit allowances. Although 84% of police forces questioned currently work with Independent Domestic Violence Advisors (IDVA) and domestic abuse coordinators (DAC) (widely recognised as valuable members of a domestic abuse unit), in some cases there is only one IDVA or DAC serving a population of half a million people.
Speaking from Liquidlogic Denise Harrison said “we feel passionately that additional resources should be ring-fenced and invested into training and staff as well as technology to assist those working with domestic abuse victims to share information with other key agencies such as children’s social care teams, hospitals and education teams – often children can be overlooked in domestic abuse situations.”
