Digital Pen

Introduction

As a leading provider of digital pen and paper solutions, Liquidlogic has been working closely with Ubisys to deliver integrated solutions in conjunction with PROTOCOL case management systems for children’s and adults’ social care. This can help practitioners reduce the amount of re-keying they have to perform after completing assessments.

Solution Overview

Digital pen and paper solutions provide a synchronised method of working, allowing users to carry out their work at a client site without the need for IT equipment. Completed forms can be uploaded to the PROTOCOL system, via a docking station or mobile phone, where the form image (including handwriting) and the converted text is stored within the service users’ record. This can be particularly useful for any workers who may be unable or feel uncomfortable carrying expensive hardware whilst visiting clients.

Liquidlogic has created an API to enable PROTOCOL applications to securely connect to digital pen and paper. The packaged solution enables users to capture relevant case information on paper whilst visiting the client. The pen holding all the data is later synchronised with the PROTOCOL system and all the information is converted to text and populated in the relevant area of the system. A PDF copy of the completed form is also attached to the service user record for reference. Where appropriate the manual form can be left with the service user for their record.

The secure interface provides a remote method for users perform a number of tasks, relating to the PROTOCOL system:

  • Setup service user records
  • Search for service users
  • Pre-populate & print forms
  • Attach electronic records to service user records contained within PROTOCOL
  • Validate handwriting from within PROTOCOL.

Many forms and assessment are already digitised for PROTOCOL, however additional or local forms can also be made available digitally.
