Duplicate records can fragment and confuse an organisations knowledge base. Confusion relating to person held records can have disastrous consequences.
When multiple organisations work collaboratively the problem is compounded, as numerous databases are searched containing possible duplicates. It makes sense to match and cleanse records across different organisations where they represent the same person, thus giving a composite view of an individual.
Finding duplicate records can also show evidence of fraudulent activity by citizens and can improve customer service.
